KIC Introduces the Lead-Free Thermal Process Kit

(San Diego, CA -- June 20, 2005) : KIC, the leader of thermal profiling software and winner of multiple SMT Vision awards, announces a new profiler kit that will be highlighted in booth 5511 at the upcoming Assembly Technology Expo scheduled Sedptember 27-29, 2005, at the Donald Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, IL.

With the July 1, 2006 deadline to conform to the European environmental legislation approaching at warp speed, electronics manufacturers all over the world are preparing to deal with the significally more difficult and tighter lead-free process window. The elevated temperatures and longer processing times excert additional thermal stress on profilers. In addition, reflow oven setup becomes more difficult and time consuming because of the narrow lead-free process window.

KIC‘s new Lead-Free Thermal Process kit solves all these issues. The brand new metal thermal shield offers significantly better thermal protection while keeping the slim physical dimension of the lower spec "cool touch" shield. Some manufacturers process their parts in an inert atmosphere, requiring a tighter tunnel height. A low height thermal shield becomes imperative for such applications. The KIC Auto-Focus acts as an "oven recipe search engine" and automatically selects the single best oven recipe for any lead-free application within seconds after the initial profile has been run. It also enables quick oven setup and allows manufacturers to optimize their thermal process along three dimensions: Center of the process window for the most stable process; Fastest throughput; and Quickest oven changeover. The Lead-Free Thermal Process Kit includes a SlimKIC 2000 profiler with either 9 or 12 TC inputs, and can operate either in real-time or as a datalogger. Medium-temperature TCs rated to 400C, and Aluminum tape for easy TC attachment.
